Our universe is a grand experiment in Chaos Theory in an attempt by the Creators to understand it better. The butterfly effect in Chaos Theory describes how a small change in one state of a deterministic non-linear system can result in large differences in a later state. A metaphor for this behaviour is a butterfly flapping its wings in China can cause a hurricane in Texas. Small differences in initial conditions, such as those due to rounding errors in numerical computation, can yield widely diverging outcomes. Their deterministic nature does not make them predictable. An aspiring engineering student who wants to study at the IIT’s in India will have to study from Day 1 and continue till almost 730 days more. But still if the student is determined to study in an IIT that doesn’t confirm his/her end result would be positive. Predictability is highly rare and complex in these conditions. All of us know how a man in China ate a bat and now the whole world is suffering of Coronavirus. In this same way the butterfly effect comes into the scene. In movies, there’s a sci-fi genre and in that some movies deal with how if you go back in time with the help of a time machine you can change the outcome of a certain event. The Universe is in a state of disorder. Humans all around the world are dying. From celebrities to common people nobody is able to predict what might happen next. For some who might think, Ah! I wish I could go back in time to stop these mishappenings, should also remember, whenever you try to meddle with time, you either get stuck in a loop or you cease to exist for good. You create an alternate timeline which can have adverse effects. I’m sure Gavrilo Princip was determined to kill Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Duchess of Hohenburg but couldn’t know that his killing would cause World War 1. From the moment you’ve started reading this piece, till the moment you’ve reached this line, you’re affecting everybody with the beat of your heart to the carbon dioxide you exhale, you’re affecting the world. Whether our life is a determined intricacy as the present determines the future, we should be careful in whatever task we do and that should be in favour of the planet we live in. We no longer live in Newton’s world of Determinism, everything is chaotic around us and predictability is far within our grasp. An inch of happiness can span across generations into a mile of kindness. A grain of hatred can blow up a desert of destruction that spans millenniums. Whether our lives is a finishing mathematical equation or a periodic function waiting to be chaotic or simply a divine push from God’s finger, that is not for me to decide, rather for you to recognise. The Universe is in Chaos, for now we must aim for Equilibrium.
